coffee scrub on legs

It's been a long time since I've done a minimal ingredients recipe. The difference with this one is that you can't eat it (...I mean, you could brew it but I'm not sure that cinnamon and turmeric would go down too well), you scrub your whole human bean bodeh' with it.

Coffee is a part of my day-off routine.

Wake up, stretch, (snooze, wake up again) coffee, before anything more productive. Just call me Lorelai! I've tried so many gorgeous flavoured coffees in my impromptu TK Maxx hauls but recently switched to a cheap alternative, so it wasn't a loss to make a beautiful body scrub out of. Plus, it makes you smell like sweet roasted coffee beans, and who wouldn't want that.

Although the caffeine in coffee causes anxiety for many people, did you know the smell actually reduces anxiety symptoms? That's something that makes this scrub perfect for day or night use- if you love to wake up and smell the coffee, use this in your morning shower. If you need to wind down and destress, deep inhale the aroma of coffee in your night-time shower. Perrrrrfect.

To make your scrub | 5 minutes & 4 ingredients:

Body scrub ingredients flatlay

Grab your coffee (ground for cafetiere use, you want a grind that's not too fine as otherwise it won't polish away those dead skin cells as well), some turmeric and cinnamon from the spice rack and some granulated sugar. The larger the grains of all of these things, the better.

You will also need a container for your scrub and a piece of paper to use as a funnel, or even better, an actual funnel!

For my container I used a bottle from the Porters Gin sample I received when I met Instagram's co-creator with Creative Debuts! I knew bottle hoarding would come in handy.

pouring coffee into bottle

Sugar, Coffee and cinnamon

Fill your container two thirds with coffee grounds, then mix together the final third of sugar with a good shake of cinnamon and turmeric.

Turmeric is used in face masks quite a lot as it's super rich in anti-oxidants. Cinnamon, when taken, is a metabolism boost and both spices help circulation. Exfoliating does too! So these combined is the perfect skin boost.

Add all your ingredients to your container and shake it up! Shake it like you're real mad about it, until it's all mixed together (my bottle was a bit wet before so it separated a bit).

Use your new natural body scrub on wet skin, like a regular exfoliator. Massage in circles to buff away dead skin so you feel smoother than a smooooooooth criminal.

If you're feeling spicy, or are dreading having to get up on cold mornings ahead, add a little ginger for the perfect winter warmer scrub. Ginger will also help boost your circulation a lot and physically feels warming, so if you're anything like me in Winter and can't feel your fingers, this is the best. When you're done exfoliating, simply rinse. The sugar will dissolve in warm water and everything else will wash away, leaving no stains.

Don't be alarmed if your skin starts beaming sunshine yellow while you scrub- that's the turmeric working it's magic!

After I exfoliate I always massage some coconut oil into my skin for a glowing, softer than clouds finish. Honestly, coconut oil is my everyday skin saviour.

If you're looking for more Autumn/winter warmers, turmeric milk (also pepper milk / golden milk) is one to look out for. Mmmmmhmmm, this glowing mix of snowy morning spices and turmeric simmered in some non-dairy milk is a life saver, especially if you have a cold or want a restful night's sleep.

Let me know if you make my sunshine coffee scrub or if you have your own spin on the recipe!

red and pink flowers in water
The weather here this week has been nothing short of beautiful. We got out a few days ago and walked for hours along the side of a river, to a field of cows, down a rocky muddy riverbank and back home again after laying on the grass in the park for a couple of hours. My freckles have well and truly come out!

As much as I love this climate, I'm SO not cut out for it. My northern blood, (plus English, French, Scottish and Irish) is totally against me when it comes to the heat and my temperature resembles that of a volcano after a little walk in the sun, hahaha.

I've picked a couple of my favourite cruelty free fragrances for Spring to cover up that afternoon hike BO, including some scents supposedly for men, so this might also serve as a gift guide for someone special or simply for yourself! There's nothing wrong with women wearing cologne especially when the smell makes you want to swoon.

urban decay naked skin flatlay with flowers

Last week I had my Urban Decay make-up done at Debenhams in Fishergate Shopping Centre. I booked in for the 'Full Monty' beauty treatment, done by the lovely Sarah! We had a joke about how that's the best name ever (duh) and she got to work glamming my face up the way only the ladies of Urban Decay know how. I booked in for a 45 minute session- a full face make-over and was introduced to the beautiful Urban Decay x Jean-Michel Basquiat palettes which actually come out on the 11th May. (being the art lover I am I was stunned and so excited to try these shades a week early!)

I chose to work with 'Tenant' for it's bright colours from greens to blues, to a luxurious purple. The box is a reprint of Jean-Michel's artworks and is made of canvas,  a super lovely touch. Not only that but you can hang the palettes up like little paintings!

janjira's bubble mask review on face

The final three weeks of my degree have arrived and stress leaves me no stranger to break-outs. I've never been one to suffer from acne or dry skin but I've noticed that stress definitely makes a difference and always leaves my face looking tired or dull, which makes me more stressed out! So, for the past couple of weeks I've been making little adjustments to my skincare regime, including throwing some luxury everyday masks in there for a little well earned pampering!

I remember being a fan of Barry M when my thirteen year old self wanted to do make-overs at sleepovers and finally had the pocket money to try the make-up that all the older, cooler teenagers were wearing. Barry M has come a long way since then in establishing themselves as the go-to cruelty free make-up brand for crazy colourful products, but have toned it down for their Matte Me Up collection with some gorgeous matte nudes.

Below, I managed to get my hands on On The Scene (top swatch, beige) and Minimalist (bottom swatch, pink) for £4.99 each at Next, surprisingly! Next are stockists of Barry M as well as most UK high street drugstores. For £4.99 these are SUCH a worthwhile purchase! The formula is very opaque, the swatches below were one coat and you can see how well it covers my tattoos

In search of fluttery lashes for Spring, I decided to try out Joan Collin's Class Act Lash Growth Treatment* for 30 days. This burlesque-like, art deco, glamorously packaged product has been said to help grow your lash length by 169% (please, tell me how you worked this out!) and increase volume of your lashes in 30 days of using it once a day.

Firstly, I'm obsessed with this packaging! It reminds me a little of Charlotte Tilbury's but killlllls it as a complete set with the JC Compact Duo, you can tell it's a part of Joan's Timeless Beauty Range. I've not noticed any long term growth, but after putting it on nightly I noticed that my lashes were a little longer in the mornings when applying my regular mascara.

Happy Valentine's Day y'all! I ♡ you.

If you can't rock a red lip on Valentines day, when can you? Red lips have been a signature of bold beauty for years and after this whole matte lip craze, I'm ready to start bringing a little glossiness back into my life. For the last two weeks I've been testing out Arbonnes Intelligent Lip Treatment*, a balm that is applied morning and evening and can go under lipstick.

Last week Boohoo SO kindly treated north-west bloggers to a couple of hours at the poolside of Village Hotel in Warrington, for relaxation, pampering and prosecco. The last time I visited a spa was when at about 17 years old with my mum in Whinfell Forest (one of my most favourite places for a long weekend away, I'm forever talking about this place and wishing I could go back) so when Boohoo's invited popped up in my e-mails I got so excited!

If you read my last post you'll know that the past couple of weeks have been super stressful. I've been working my lil' butt off on a few different projects, so this was just the thing I needed to destress and set me up for a more relaxing weekend.

I think in Winter, it's nice to go for colder colours in my make-up as my complexion is so much paler than it is in the summer (not that I ever really tan). My freckles go into hiding and my favourite wooly jumpers come out, along with the shimmeriest greys and blues of the season.

The Big Smoke* is a palette I've been dipping into a few times a week for that colder winter make-up that makes you look fierce as hell, when it's freezing outside and the wind turns your cheeks pink. It's a 12 shade palette (including one primer, a double ended brush and a mirror) with a range of colours from stone-grey to khaki green, bowie lookin' purple and aluminium metallics. Three of the shades in SEVENTEEN's sleekly designed palette are actually creams, which are my favourite right now!

I've always been more of a warm-toned eyeshadow kind of gal, but at the moment I can't get enough of blending a little cool grey into almost every look I do.

To be a glittery goddess one must first bathe like a glittery goddess! I was given the Northern Lights bath bomb set for Christmas by my boyfriend's sister, Emily (thank you again Em!) and thought it would be rude to not show you guys how insanely gorgeous they are. They really smell as heavenly as they look. The set is made of three bath bombs; Northern Lights, Shoot for the Stars and Intergalactic. Shoot for the Stars and Intergalactic both have body glitter in them that sits on top of the water like stars.

If there's one thing a prosecco filled, festive drunk girl doesn't want at the Christmas party, it's lipstick smudged all over her face or a shiny forehead from the sweaty shapes being thrown on the dancefloor. Fear not, I have you covered. Or rather surprisingly, Joan Collins has you covered!

She's a diva, a classic beauty guru and a woman of many talents, one of them is the cosmetics line she has created inspired by the power of women themselves, Hollywood glamour and Art Deco.

As part of my new three-part series, 'Eco House' and in celebration of World Vegan Month, I'm showing you my favourite cruelty free picks from each room in my house! Everything from bathroom cleaners to my favourite vegan treats and make-up products. We'll start with the bedroom; my pamper products and make-up picks as it's been a tough few weeks for us all (with he-who-shall-not-be named elected) and we could all do with a little time off. Riiiiiight?!

Firstly, sorry for the quality of these photos, the nights are getting darker and gloomy days have been overhead for about a week now, I need to invest in some artificial lighting!

Does anybody else have that make-up riddled patch of carpet in front of their mirror, or smudges and swatches constantly on their hands while blending eyeshadows? I do, but maybe I'm just gross.

When blending colours I have a particular brush that I love to use, something about the way it applies and holds pigment is *kisses fist* amazing but what happens when I want to use the next shade and the same brush? Those Morphe 35O reds and oranges aren't going away with a swirl on the carpet or the back of my hand, which is why I decided to give Shadow Switch a go.

The bandwagon has arrived and I'm jumping straight on it. How could I not for this Morphe Palette that's so perfect in colour for Autumn days and nights?

A few of my favourite beauty bloggers have been hyping up this gorgeous rust Morphe palette filled with glitters and mattes.

For a while I've been on the hunt for the perfect red shadows, looking at the Modern Renaissance Palette from ABH and Meet Matt(e) Trimony  but in the end I decided to go for the Morphe 35O, because of the reds, burnt oranges (which I'm obsessed with at the mo) and balance of glitters to mattes.

Through Autumn come winter, my hair always needs some tender lovin' care between dying it and using heat on it to restore some life. Using heat on my hair and dying it so often have been the two things that make my hair lack a little lustre sometimes and I've been trying EVERYTHING to bring it back to it's regular shine.

Skincare is becoming increasingly more vital in my daily routine, especially since around this post in July (nothing to do with the post, simply a marker I can explain) I’ve had really bad dry skin around my eyes which I can only assume is eczema or psoriasis. Kill meeeeee. Winter slays my skin without having a condition on top of it haha. Do any of you have eczema or psoriasis? How do you deal with it?

But this is what I really wanted to talk about; since making the switch to only purchasing cruelty free products I’ve discovered SO many new brands I hadn’t even heard of before, one being Odylique.

It used to be a bit of a tradition that when going away with family, mum and I would spend some time relaxing in the closest spa. Picture us soaking up quartz, salt and greek herbs in turkish and Japanese steam rooms, napping on water beds in borrowed robes and dipping in the mineral pool under the stars.

This week has been absolutely crazy with travelling to Wales, spending time with my boyfriend's family for the first time and heading back for a few days of hard work before I shoot off to Leeds Festival.

Travelling a lot and being stressed is the perfect way to give me a hella' lot of forehead spots and dry skin never mind leaving me feeling a little tense and in need of some self-love. My days away this week were an absolute dream- the weather in Wales was beautiful and being by the sea felt like a little slice of Greece (or somewhere equally as far away from the UK as possible)!

If you know me, you'll know that I hold brows sacred. They frame your face and whether they're done wrong or right, they really can change the way you look! Since Cara Deleveigne rose to fame a few years ago, big brows have come into fashion. We can't all get Kylie Jenner's eyebrow arches or PLL Aria's thick brows but a gal's gotta do what she's gotta do to get those caterpillars looking FLY.

Mega Matte Lipstick flatlay with open caps
Hello! A slightly different Sunday Post on the blog today! Are you as ready for Autumn as I am? I'm SO excited for deep purple lipsticks and layers of clothes but I'm also going to miss having an excuse to wear little lace bralets and maxi skirts. I love to buy underwear that can pull off as a bralet and wear it day-to-day in summer, purely cause even when it's only 16 degrees outside I start to melt haha.

One of my obsessions this summer has been matte lipsticks (see my other obsessions here!) So when Seventeen sent me an awesome package which included their new Mega Matte Lipsticks* in the shades 'Roses are Red' & 'Looking Buff', I was super excited.

Whether it's for a big night out or everyday use, I've fallen in love with colour correcting and I'm not even ashamed. About a week ago I showed you guys the new palette I've been obsessing over by Studio 10. Y'know the one with the colour correctors and primer in it. Honestly I feel naked without it on already for one reason. It hides alllllllll my flaws. Colour correction works by using the opposite colour on the colour wheel to neutralise any redness, uneven tone or blue under eye bags you might have.

You can get palettes with a wider range of colours in but this one is simple, and does the trick. Here's what you need to know:
